Embittered ex-NFL pro Tom Kupfen (Anthony Quinn) has taken to hanging with a group of go-nowhere beatniks, including good-schoolgirl-gone-bad Honey (Kathryn Grant), hopped-up jazz musician Kicks Johnson (Nehemiah Persoff) and ticking time bomb Gage Freeposter (Jay Robinson). Together they drink, dabble in drugs and commit just enough petty thefts to support their lurid lifestyle. But when a con they try to pull on a couple of squares goes sour, the hip crooks get in way over their heads.

As the evidence continues to mount, however, it seems to point to something more sinister.
